Even dancehall is getting lame these days.

Looks like they're getting started early on the Sting 2009 hype.

FYI:

The term "tie die face" is a verbal jab at Vybz Kartel who the Alliance claims uses skin lightening cream on his face to achieve that "good" skin look and apparently that is only for chi chi men. Go figure.

I am becoming the equivalent of a Dungeons and Dragons nerd, but with dancehall. It's pathetic.

I haven't been able to keep a full handle on all of the Alliance vs. Kartel f*ckery, but this is the first time I've heard Bounty really come with it.

It's more of a lyrical thing and not really a big riddim or anything, but boy is it a doozy.

I've been lagging on posting this, but that's because I've been busy listening to it.

The best part of this mix is that it has an actual theme. You can pop it in and listen to it front to back or just skip to any of the heaters if you're in a hurry.

Unite sprinkles plenty of good samples from all the classic Clint Eastwood "Man With No Name" flicks and it works well with all the songs since they all seem to be about money.

Also if you don't obsessively follow dancehall there are a couple of artists that you need check on here like: Konshens, Laden, and Erup.

And even though the tune is a bit old Vybz Kartel "Mi Talk With Gunshot" is a beast of a tune.

As usual check for big dubplates because that is how real soundboys do.

Good for you Vybz. Now please just do me a favor and stop wearing bedazzled t-shirts with tattoo graphics and I will begin taking you a smidge more serious.

Last Man Standing!!!!!

This tune is still running the road in JA and for good reason as it is probably one of the best clash tunes ever recorded.

But this video is almost even better. Check the one minute mark when they took Mavado's face and out it over some frightened soldier from Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers. I can't really tell.

This is Capleton's reaction to "Ramping Shop". I don't think it is Kartel diss like the tag line says.

Jamaicans are obsessed with this whole "lewd" lyrics thing. Police are now giving tickets to anyone who publicly plays "daggering" tunes on public transports.

I'm sure only 3 people who read SDTW have any idea what this about, but essentially the Jamaican media is all up in arms about a popular style of dance called "daggering" which is just basically a way more involved form of freaking that has been around for years.

Recently a lot of big tunes that focus solely on the subject matter of daggering have been called into question.

So our buddy Vybz Kartel decided to write a response to one of the writers of The Gleaner that put him on blast.

I just find it funny how one of the dancehall's biggest "badman" penned such an eloquent and well thought out response.

"Kartel begins the letter … “This is a response to an article written by Esther Tyson and supported by the rest of the social hypocrites who claim Rampin’ Shop is musical poison.

Ms Tyson, the “devastating impact on the psyche of Jamaican children” is not caused by ‘daggerin’ songs but rather by socio-economic conditions which leave children without free education, single-parent homes, (or shacks), the lack of social infrastructure in ghetto communities, unemployed and disenfranchised young men with no basic skills who are caught up in the ‘gun culture’ cultivated by our politicians in the 1960s-’70s, all faults of the governments (PNP and JLP).“

He goes on to say … “Rampin’ Shop is just as easily accessible to the public as are porn sites on the internet via laptop or phone; as accessible as ‘R’-rated movies or carnival revellers ‘daggerin’ uptown in broad daytime on our local and cable television stations.“

He closes with … “Ms Tyson, the “decent, well-thinking citizens of Jamaica” as you put it, love Rampin’ Shop; only a few hypocrites are against it, at least publicly. I encourage you to use your obviously lengthy spare time to write about things that actually affect the nation …“

Bad Man Photoshop

So I was looking for the "Last Man Standing" tune by Vybz Kartel last night and I came across what appeared to be Vybz's 25th myspace page. After clicking on the pics I found a folder with all these photoshop'd images of him and Mavado. Obviously these were created post Sting, but I couldn't help but post these things.

The last flick is just of Vybz from Sting, but I just thought the whole coffin thing was creative.

2009 is going to be so good for dancehall. Quote me.

Sting 2008 and The Party Keeps Moving

When it comes to dancehall business there is always one person who I can turn to when all other roads have failed.

Hugh Knight a.k.a Unite

Unite has been juggling 45's since well.....probably since he was born. So whenever I need answers or a tune I just simply ring him up and it's sent to my email no questions asked within the hour. Well as long as he has time between rolling spliffs.

That being the case it is vitally important you check his blog frequently as it is one of the best places to get dancehall news, tunes, dubplates, history etc and if that isn't enough he has you covered on hip-hop, funk, soul, and even a little graff business from time to time. P.S Also check out the newest Vybz Kartel tune he posted because that tune is gonna run the road for sure after the dust settles down from the Mavado vs. Vybz clash at this year's Sting 2008.

Sub-note: After watching the youtube clips of the clash and the listening to the full audio I am going to be diplomatic and say I don't think either artist really displayed any ability to throughly control the crowd over the other. I think Vybz was more articulate with his chat and Mavado sounded a bit inexperienced to tell you the truth. But in the end I'm just sort of disappointed with both of these deejays. This clash doesn't hold a candle to any of the big Sting moments from the previous years. Ninjaman comes out at the end and has the best line of the whole clash "Me suck yu motha, but yu motha suck me." Classic Ninja f*ckery. Gotta love The Gorgon.

New Vybz Kartel Album

And the worst album cover of the year goes to.....

Vybz.

Easy Vybz. I haven't had time to fully listen to this new album mainly due to the fact that I can't stop shakin' from how scary Addi looks on the cover.

I'm not even gonna tell you what I think about this album. I'm just gonna rip on this horrible excuse for an album cover. I mean as someone who lives and breathes for dancehall music and all things Jamaican this is just so bad.

Vybz shouldn't let his herb carrier do his lay-outs. Of course I sort of feel he had a hand in this dismal looking thing as I'm sure Vybz was the ad-wiz who came up with the brilliant idea of getting his 4 tears tat and bandanna on also known as "Weezy-itis". The t-shirt being off is known as DMXatosis or Ja Ruleapecia.

On the real though there's some big tunes on here. Run it. You won't be disappointed.
