Heavy Manners x Tribe of Kings "Can't Frighten"

Back by popular demand.

Thanks to everyone that still requests this.

Music is pretty much free and even my grandma has a mixtape so I know people can listen to tons of free mixtapes, but it makes me hyped that people still hit me up for this one.

It took a lot of work to make the bloody thing. Working with those crafty Jamaicans over the phone is never easy. It goes without saying that without Tribe of Kings Sound it would not have happened.

Real Talk With Hugh Knight

Above: HAARP Weather Control System in Alaska, U.S.A

I was on the phone yesterday rapping out with my buddy Hugh Knight and he starts telling me how he was watching some shit on how the government have these computers that can control the weather.

I've heard about that before, but never really looked into it much.

Then Hugh starts telling me that those dudes bit that shit from the G.I Joe Movie (animated one) in which Serpentor (villain) had this machine called B.E.T that low and behold CONTROLS THE WEATHER.

Above: Serpentor a.k.a The Man With The Plan

It got me thinking. As 80's babies come to age we are gonna start seeing all types of diabolical plots come to life. Just watch.

Now Hugh openly stated that "it may be the weed talking here, but that shit is no coincidence."

And I agree with him.

Just you wait. One day your car is going to transform into some righteous talking asshole robot that won't shut the fuck up about energon cubes and how it needs to contact someone on Cybertron.

You were warned blood.

Me and Hugh are gonna be somewhere in Montana at a ranch far away from all that non sense playing Super Nintendo and taking bong hits while you suckers are caught up in an interplanetary conflict.

The End Of Heavy Manners

Here is a shot of the last order of Heavy Manners tees to be sold.

Why no more Heavy Manners?

Maybe it was the economy, maybe it was apathy towards a consumer culture that sickened me, or maybe it was just shitty destiny.

I've been making tee shirts since 2002. It's been a long road. Compared to some of my peers 8 years in the game is nothing. Some of my mentors have been at this game for decades and are still going.

Heavy Manners only did one full offering and few other one off tees and I really didn't get a chance to show visually where the brand was going. I've been sitting on amazing stuff that never saw the light of day due to money issues and bad business decisions.

It was fun while it lasted and although the line went generally unnoticed by the blogosphere we did manage to pull off a few things that made me proud.

Some of the highlights:

Producing a DanceHalloween exclusive mixtape for The Fader with Dasheye and Unite from Tribe of Kings Sound. We got dubs from Demarco and Michael Rose right when "Shootout" Riddim was blowing up. We also did another tape with Sizzla which wasn't too bad I must say.

Working with Kevin Lyons who was and is still a huge inspiration to me.

Getting to work with my partner in crime designer Justin Atallian. Who I still believe is the most slept on designer in the game. Get your fucking website up homie!

Having the skinhead dudes featured in the photo on the Heavy Manners "Riot" tee somehow email me and tell me what really happened in the picture when that photo was taken. Small world.

Having Unite get a tee on Sly Dunbar of Sly and Robbie fame.

Sitting in a ganja filled bus chatting with Half Pint about how dancehall started in the Waterhouse era.

And most importantly having the Godless Killing Machine tee featured on FFFFOUND.COM

Thanks to everyone that showed support and love and although I am going on record and saying this is the end that doesn't mean I won't bring it back sometime down the road.

If you want to buy any of what is surely the last batch of Heavy Manners tees on the planet just check back here when I post a link of where they will be sold at online.

Thanks again.

To end here is my favorite dubplate that we did.

DJ Unite

My favorite selector or just flat out favorite people in the world Mista Hugh Knight made himself a little mix of some Gregory tunes and Yellowman tunes for his trip to Guam where he is djing for the a show featuring both of them.

He always gets the crazy gigs. Guam? Guam with Gregory Isaacs and Yellowman? Get out of here. Since Tribe of Kings never hides their dubplates in the bin you get to hear a dubplate from each artist.

Get it.

Note: Props on the jankiest mixtape cover of 2010 too

DJ Unite "Fistful Of Dollars" Dancehall Mixtape

I've been lagging on posting this, but that's because I've been busy listening to it.

The best part of this mix is that it has an actual theme. You can pop it in and listen to it front to back or just skip to any of the heaters if you're in a hurry.

Unite sprinkles plenty of good samples from all the classic Clint Eastwood "Man With No Name" flicks and it works well with all the songs since they all seem to be about money.

Also if you don't obsessively follow dancehall there are a couple of artists that you need check on here like: Konshens, Laden, and Erup.

And even though the tune is a bit old Vybz Kartel "Mi Talk With Gunshot" is a beast of a tune.

As usual check for big dubplates because that is how real soundboys do.

Sound Clash 2009

Don't be fooled by the weak flyer. For whatever reason sound clash flyers are usually really bad.

Anyways, I just want to show some love for my favorite hometown sound Tribe of Kings before they get their clash on tomorrow in the Bay.

I got a little sneak peak of just a few of the dubs and I think the competition is in for trouble.

If you're in SF and mess with dancehall make your way to Club Dread tomorrow night.

Can't Frighten

The Heavy Manners/Tribe of Kings "Can't Frighten" mix just scored a 9 out of 10 review on DJ Phantomz website. I'm not entirely sure what that means, but seeing as that dude has every single dancehall track on the planet on his site I guess it means something.

If you still haven't joined the "online sensation" that is the free "Can't Frighten" mixtape go get it.

Heavy Manners in The Fader Mag Again

As promised "Can't Frighten" by Heavy Manners & Tribe of Kings mixed by Dash Eye featuring Demarco.

We chose to debut the mix exclusively through The Fader Magazine as they pretty much are the final word for all things dancehall as far as magazines go.

Just like last year's mix this one features exclusive dubs from dancehall's elite i.e Demarco, Michael Rose, Konshens, and Boom Steppa.

Getting these tunes is a huge pain and a very time consuming process which Dash Eye typically handles for us.

At any rate this one came out ramming and we're really proud of it.

Hopefully this one will hold you over until next year.

Special shouts to: Tribe of Kings, Lemon Red, Fader Mag, DJ Eleven, and Dustin of CDLC for all their help.

Tribe of Kings Sound

Best show of the summer? Quite possibly. San Diego do not pass this one up. Shinehead crushes shows and South Rakkas will probably melt your face right off of your head.

Hugh Knight

Last night I linked up with my old friend Unite from Tribe of Kings Sound at Marymoor Park. After warming up the 5,000 person crowd Unite and I chilled on stage in the back and watched Half Pint play with Slightly Stoopid.

He still has another month of gigging across the U.S with Sly and Robbie, Half Pint, Slightly Stoopid, and Pepper. Not a bad job I'd say.

After the show Unite, Half Pint, and I nerded out on sound boy talk, Jammy's Sound, dubplates, and doing specials for Rodigan. Not bad for a Thursday night.

Good to see ya Hugh.

Big ups to Half Pint a true dancehall legend.

Heavy Manners Sizzla Mix

After a really long haul the Heavy Manners "Fire Pon Dem" mix hosted by Sizzla Kalonji and mixed by Dasheye of Tribe of Kings Sound is finally available for download.

Instead of releasing it on SDTW I handed the mix off to someone who is known to deal in these sorts of things Chris a.k.a Lemon Red.

Chris and I linked at a Diplo/Bonde Do Role show which he was managing at the time and he is now working for the Money Studies label out of the Turntable Lab NY office. Look for big tings from him soon.

I can not even remember all the mixes he has released on his humble little blog, but all of them are strictly dope and it's an honor to have ours up on there.

Go here to download it:
