DJ Unite

My favorite selector or just flat out favorite people in the world Mista Hugh Knight made himself a little mix of some Gregory tunes and Yellowman tunes for his trip to Guam where he is djing for the a show featuring both of them.

He always gets the crazy gigs. Guam? Guam with Gregory Isaacs and Yellowman? Get out of here. Since Tribe of Kings never hides their dubplates in the bin you get to hear a dubplate from each artist.

Get it.

DJ Unite "Fistful Of Dollars" Dancehall Mixtape

I've been lagging on posting this, but that's because I've been busy listening to it.

The best part of this mix is that it has an actual theme. You can pop it in and listen to it front to back or just skip to any of the heaters if you're in a hurry.

Unite sprinkles plenty of good samples from all the classic Clint Eastwood "Man With No Name" flicks and it works well with all the songs since they all seem to be about money.

Also if you don't obsessively follow dancehall there are a couple of artists that you need check on here like: Konshens, Laden, and Erup.

And even though the tune is a bit old Vybz Kartel "Mi Talk With Gunshot" is a beast of a tune.

As usual check for big dubplates because that is how real soundboys do.

Sly Dunbar Heavy Manners

I could care less seeing rapper such and such wearing our gear. It's almost expected these days. Rappers will wear ANYTHING for anyone.

But when I get a flick from Unite of Sly Dunbar wearing a Heavy Manners tee I get that same geeked feeling that I used to get when I first started designing tee shirts.

Who is Sly Dunbar?

Sly Dunbar along with his partner in crime Robbie Shakespeare have produced over 200,000 songs give or take.

Not impressed?

No Doubt, Madonna, Ben Harper, Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger, The Rolling Stones, Grace Jones, Joan Armatrading, Gilberto Gil, Joe Cocker, Serge Gainsbourg, Sting, Khaled, Mey Vidal, Tricky, Doug E. Fresh, Carlos Santana, Sinéad O'Connor, The Fugees and others have had these guys make songs for them in the last 30 odd years.

Thanks for making my day Sly. Keep the riddims coming and can a dude get a pound for rocking the overalls with one strap please? Easy star.

Hugh Knight

Last night I linked up with my old friend Unite from Tribe of Kings Sound at Marymoor Park. After warming up the 5,000 person crowd Unite and I chilled on stage in the back and watched Half Pint play with Slightly Stoopid.

He still has another month of gigging across the U.S with Sly and Robbie, Half Pint, Slightly Stoopid, and Pepper. Not a bad job I'd say.

After the show Unite, Half Pint, and I nerded out on sound boy talk, Jammy's Sound, dubplates, and doing specials for Rodigan. Not bad for a Thursday night.

Good to see ya Hugh.

Big ups to Half Pint a true dancehall legend.
