Josey Wales "Ruling" LP

I probably should have had this album a long time ago, but only just recently copped it.

Josey Wales was one of the few deejay that was able to clash with Yellowman and hold his own.

He came up on U-Roy's Sturgarv Sound and would go on to work for Junjo's Volcano Sound (my favorite next to Jammy's).

The Limonious artwork is kind of cool as it shows more of a shading style versus his typical color separated style.

DJ Clash Nicodemus Vs. Toyan

I actually have this on vinyl. I have to big ups Kofi from Tribe of Kings for it. When I was still a naive youthman I didn't know that budget ass album art meant that the record inside was probably rougher than a fisherman's knuckle.

Kofi just handed me this when I was checking out at the register and just gave me this look like "don't even question me."
I looked at the sleeve and wasn't feeling it, but bought it anyways.

Of course this LP rams.

You get Toyan and Nicodemus (R.I.P) at their collective best just going back and fourth pon the mic.

I've never had it digitally so thank you DeejayToatsers

If you're not a pussy hole I would highly suggest grabbing this one.

Lone Ranger

Right? Oink!!!!

This is the album I was referencing from my breakfast porn shot.

All Studio One riddims courtesy of Coxsone Dodd and company.

Jackie Mittoo on the keys which is always a nice bonus.

Nothing on this album is touching "Automatic" on one of my all time favorites "Truth and Rights" riddim.

One of the best deejays to ever pick up a mic and chat.

Clint Eastwood is the wickedest.

Prince Far I

I came across this Pressure Sounds album of Prince Far I (our Heavy Manners' namesake).

If you are unfamiliar with Prince Far I that is pretty understandable. He is fairly obscure to most people not familiar with the late 70's deejay genre, although he was fairly popular in his time and probably more so in England than in Jamaica.

I can't decipher much from this album other than it was put out by Pressure Sounds who also have what has to be the only official Prince Far I shirt I've ever seen. Dang.

For the uninitiated the king deeejay chats or more specifically just sort of talks about the Bible over roots versions. He doesn't really chat in the traditional rhyming style. He is definitely not for everyone, but give it a try especially if you're the type that is prone to get stoned and draw.

Here's a likkle sample of the froggy voiced one. This track isn't on there. Get at me if you want this one too.

Prince Jazzbo

Straight from Claredon comes a man called Prince Jazzbo. I snagged this compilation from Pressure Sounds last week and have been giving it a listen. It's pretty good although I gotta say I prefer "Ital Corner" over this release.

It includes the diss track "Kick Boy Face" which was used in an on-going feud between toaster and deejay extraordinaire I-Roy. The best part was that the two were actually good friends, but the general public wasn't made aware of that little fact. I guess even in 1975 fake beef was a profitable idea. Some things never change.

I also posted the sleeve for Kick Boy Face because that cover is hard I don't care what you think.

2. The Jazzbo All Stars - Mr Funny Version
3. Step Forward Youth
4. Black Is Power

Dr. Alimantado

Seeing as we are finally in summer here in Seattle I thought I would post up some "summery" reggae tunnes. Dr. Alimantado was a 70's deejay with a solid toast style and versioned over a lot of big tunes that were out at the time.

The album is more or less a collection of singles put out during that time and gave the Doctor a good amount of notoriety specifically within the late 70's London punk scene after he was praised by Johnny Rotten of The Sex Pistols as one of his favorite reggae artists.

The title track is by far the stand out tune and is actually one of my favorite deejay tunes ever.

Not to mention that "Best Dressed Chicken in Town" is one of the most wicked album covers in history. Just look at that pose. Vicious!

Enjoy.

Track Listing:

1. Best Dressed Chicken in Town
2. Just the Other Day
3. Poison Flour
4. Gimmie Mi Gun
5. I Killed the Barber
