SDTW Shurt Feelings

It's that time again, where I take a peep into the fascinating world of streetwear t shirt design. Be prepared to have you mind blown away by these titans of industry.

The shirt is actually a sequel to a previous design they did called "Name 4 Things You Don't Have". Sup with this dude anyway? My boy looks like a 3 Musketeer that found a time machine to 2011.

How did it get deeper than sneakers? Do you need a degree now to collect shoes? I'd love to see the class schedule for a Sneakers Major.

Class Schedule:
- Jerking Off 103 (advanced)
- Intro To Light Skinded Rap
- Lacing/Cleaning
- Operating A T-Mobile Sidekick
- Living With Your Moms

Homie put chur lil' Eminem finger down. You look like the "boy" in a young lesbian couple. First off, I can't take anyone with the samurai pony tail serious, ever. You got fucking peace bracelets on. Don't those things make it illegal to have non mellow thoughts? If you're such a bad ass then why are you afraid to wear a t shirt that actually spells "fuck"? You look mad "p*ssy" wearing that "sh*t".

Ahhhhh, what's wrong Sebastian? Why so sad? Is the tumblr server down again? Ah man and you were gonna post "hella" filtered i-phones pics of that Sigur Ros show you went to by yourself. Well at least you got your little tattoo starter kit rocking tough.

Oh it's fucking Dartayan again. What are you modeling this time blood? Oh word? Sucker free. I don't want to be a party crasher here, but this makes ZERO MOTHERFUCKING sense.

It does not work:

- literally
- figuratively
- satirically
- metaphorically

Or any other way. How does this even exist? I would rather rock an all over print Twilight shirt than wear this fucking screen printed enigma. You are free of suckers, but have a girl clearly eating a sucker? Do you not see how this would only make sense to a retard on ecstasy?

All press is good press. So if you wanna cop any of these jawns holler at my boys

SDTW Photoshop Skillz

I call this one Ifinessy.

Pretty clever right?

Here's why it is so clever:

1.) I am pretty sure I am the only person that has ever used this photo in a design
2.) I totally flipped the script on this shit cause it is supposed to have Oscar Wilde on his t shirt but I totally put Morrissey in the same picture on his t shirt instead
3.) I then came up with a the best name for it "Infinessy" cause like that is basically infinity + Morrissey in the same word and shit.

So fucking epic.

I am so using this design for some sick collabo.

SDTW Fan Art

Oh this?

It's nothing really.

It is just the best fan art sent in so far. One would be short sighted to look at this and just see 4 sea cows with a spray paint tool splash of red and yellow.

Props to the homie C-Murder

When I Die I Hope You Blog About Me

Here is my response to all the death that seems to keep coming this year.

I don't profess to have any major design chops so go easy on the kid.

Proliferate it if you feel the need to.

Design Of The Day

80's and 90's NHL graphic design is better than nearly all sports graphic design save for maybe the NBA.

If anyone has this jersey send to the SDTW HQ pronto.

Logo Bites Are For D*ckholes

Above: Memorize this concept kids

Why do brands/designers still parody logos and album covers?

Allow me to rant for a bit here...

When I think way back the first time I ever saw logo parodies would have to be in a Mr. Rags or Hot Topic in junior high. That is where I encountered such classic as "Marijuana's" (McDonald's Logo) and Pac-O-Bowl (Taco Bell Logo). Awesome.

Even way back then I felt it was a gimmick. I associated that "technique" if that is what you want to call it with those stores and that sort of clientele. Basically, I thought the shirts were for fat people and weird kids that liked chain wallets too much. I think that part has remained the same.

Now fast forward to 2003 when I first started designing tees and the initial wave of "streetwear" began getting media attention. Every one and their mother had some logo parody tee. Anything and everything was up for grabs: Bo Knows, Apocalypse Now, La Haine, Supreme, LIFE magazine, Starter, Do The Right Thing, and all things Wu Tang. Nothing was safe not even another clothing brand's logo was safe from the fad. Even now it still runs rampant with brands raping logos and artwork from the likes of The Smiths, Minor Threat, Black Flag, A Tribe Called Quest, and the list goes on and on.

Here are some stellar examples of the ever so clever logo parody:

Who is to blame for this never ending trend? I'd say the retail buyers, but then again their job is to sell the most units possible, but they essentially are the first line of defense against logo parody tees. If they passed on all logo tees brands and designers would be forced to stop mocking them up in their look books which would mean they wouldn't be sampled which would mean the end of this trend in the marketplace.

But, they don't and probably never will.

Is it a sign of the times? Is it going to just become some sort of tolerated aspect of graphic design forever? Will that be the legacy for the last decade in design? Sadly, I think so. This "biting" mentality isn't exclusive to just graphic design obviously, but that would warrant a whole other rant and I don't even care to go into it.

Answer these questions for me:

What does a logo parody mean? Why should the consumer buy into this concept? If anyone can do one then why should we believe that one is more unique than the other?

I mean you may as well just make a logo parody idea generator that randomly picks a logo or brand for you to bite for your next season.

Why think if you don't have to?

The real shame is that if people worked on making their own logos the same caliber then they would at least create something that someone else could end up doing a logo flip with down the road.

Nuff said.

Pulp Fiction In Motion Type

Nick showed this to me wayyyyy back. I don't remember if I posted it before. I'm getting old and can't remember what I've put up on here anymore. Sad.

Anyways, do yourself a favor and watch the clip.

WWF

I am an outspoken advocate for logo parodies. I despise them on many levels, but every once in a while I have to laugh at them.

There are exceptions to every rule and a life without hypocrisy is not a life at all my friends.

The Best of FFFFOUND

I've recently become extremely obsessed with "found" type blogs. I enjoy the fact that they are free of criticisms and opinion. By removing the written word they become open to interpretation by the viewers and take the focus away from the author.

I went through about 60 pages to create my own FFFFound image gallery. There's no cohesive theme, but I like the results.

Enjoy.
