Back in the day I was lucky enough to find one of the classic Kon and Amir mixtapes at my local music spot.

It blew me away how many samples these dudes were up on.

They had debunked all the classics, new stuff, radio hits, and all of them were presented in the original break and mixed together perfectly.

Remember mixing?

It's no secret that hip-hop/rap have become the modern day soap opera. I can't say that I don't follow it to some degree i.e 50 and Officer Rawse, but when people start talking about how this dude is hard or that dude is the hardest I tend to laugh because nobody really knows.

I came across this insightful article that seems pretty legit on some of hip hop's biggest goons and the actual street credentials cited almost like a term on paper on hardness.

My boy Uncle Murda made the list, but you should already know that.

MF Doom Vaudeville Villain

I think Doom is an acquired taste. He isn't the best in my book by any means. I consider his music more of what I call "headphone rap". It's stuff that I like to draw to or put on when I'm not doing anything. Doom rhymes mostly in non sequiturs, but will sometimes pen detailed albeit bizarre stories about fictitious comic book like worlds and what have you.

Love em or hate em he probably isn't going anywhere.

And by the way when is that Doom/Ghostface album dropping? It was supposed to happen like 3 years ago. Get with it guys.

The rap game is sort of redeeming itself lately for me. For a while I was seeking out 80's hardcore albums and hard to find 80's dancehall singles because I was so bored of rap.

People are beginning to make actual albums worth listening to again and on a major level no less.

First the Jeezy album came out (download it if you have your doubts) and now T.I drops "Paper Trail" and it is just as good maybe even a bit better.

This one plays more like "King" than anything else and I think that is good thing. He mixes in the heaters, singles, and "emotional thug" type songs through out and it makes it feel like an actual album versus just a collection of radio singles.

One listen to "Swagga Like Us" featuring Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Weezy will shut up any bitter hip-hop fan, period.

Get it before big brother pulls the link.

Ragga Twins: Ragga Twins Step Out

Any one with some sense can tell that Ragga Twins pretty much started all of this jungle, drum n bass, grime, and dub step ting.

That sounds like quite a claim I know. But it's pretty well regarded as fact.

Now that being the case that doesn't mean that this record sounds anything like any of those genres entirely, but the blue print for all of them was laid down by these four men.

Flinty Badman and Deman Rocker handle the mic chat while Philip "PJ" Johnson and Carlton "Smiley" Hyman take up the production side of things.

The outcome is a molotov cocktail of dancehall, hip-hop breaks, bad man business, bass, and hints of the previously mentioned genres. This compilation takes most of "Reggae Owes Me Money" LP and adds some other tunes that all work really well as a whole.

Don't sleep on downloading this one even if you're not into this type of thing chances are you'll probably like Ragga Twins.

Not that I really need substantiated proof that any of these "kingpins" ever moved weight, but this does remove any sort of "stripes" Mr. Ross may have had going for him up to date.

Apparently, his ex-chick's home "suspiciously" caught fire and firefighters have reported that it seems fishy.

If this turns out to be true 50 will become 2008's Rae Carruth. Dumb. Dumb Dumb.

DJ Greyboy

Of all the things that you'd expect to download on a Wednesday morning from this site I seriously doubt you thought there would be a Greyboy album not to mention an instrumental "breaks" based album at that.

Truth be told I was quite the backpack hip hop connoisseur in my day and have the records to prove it. Anything from the golden 90's I most likely have or have heard. So if I get the bug I will post up some albums that any 25 - 30 year skate delinquent should of had from the period.

Now this Greyboy album is not some esoteric gem from that era per say, but I think it's a decent album of well known and lesser known breaks that were popular in that era and it's good "working" music. Simple drum breaks with some added instruments layered behind it and that's all folks.

So for now just settle.
