For Those Who Can't See Them Yet" by FaNKULT a.k.a Jay Clark

"For Those Who Can't "See" Them Yet" by FaNKULT a.k.a Jay Clark

Jay Clark might be the only real artist friend I have. He can not draw, design, paint, or photograph worth a shit. Yet, he recently had a doozy of an art show that I unfortunately was unable to attend due to a poorly planned vacation.

Why do I consider Jay Clark to be my only artist friend? Well I would say that based off my own personal definition of art, Jay Clark is one of the few people that knows the single biggest "secret" on how to be an actual artist.

which is simply that...... "the concept is king"

A good concept triumphs over great skill.

Every time.

Still not sold on that line of shit I just fed you?

Allow me to explain...

Let's say you can paint jaw dropping photo-realism style paintings. Like the shit looks like a full on photo even when you view it up close.

That is cool. It takes enormous skill to do that. No one should be denied the credit they receive for achieving that level of mastery.

If you then use said talent to paint bowls of fruit (which most people do)

Well then congratulations guy..... you are now wonderfully mediocre.

Now let's say someone cut words out of old magazine that say something like "Don't Blame Me, I Voted For Hitler" and displays them. That piece is (in my personal definition of the word art) a lot more artistic.

To each their own and all that political correct bullshit, but my point is this: You can go buy a whole bunch of canvases and some paint pens and call yourself an artist, but true art is convincing people to talk about your work by doing as little actual WORK as possible.

Jay figured that out long ago and the only reason I co-sign his work is because he will openly admit to being completely talentless. That is why he might be only true artist I know.

Go grab his newly printed book which features wonderful selections from 5 hand made zines. It will make a great gift to someone and a horrible gift to almost everyone.

Jordan Loves Kats

Jordan Loves Kats has quickly become a staple in the Seattle pool of noteworthy talent.

This is a teaser trailer of a day in the life of Jordan Loves Kats.

It doesn't show much, but when the full thing comes out you'll get a bigger picture of the littlest homie.

Seattle Brands Do It Better

It's nice to know that Seattle's independent brands are still going strong even when the economy and specifically retail is in the sh*tter.

Have no fear cause Flying Coffin comes to the rescue with a great set of skate decks that function aesthetically singly or as a full set. Our friends at Flying Coffin never disappoint and always do the simple things right.

And if that wasn't enough...

TJ a.k.a The Dark Lord managed to get another mixtape out this time by ECDC and completely dedicated to Sonic Youth. Actual Pain always does there mixtapes right so I would suggest taking the time to download that som'a bitch.

Seattle weather may suck, but the brands that come out of here do not folks.

Frightening Coffin

Flying Coffin doesn't really need the press at this point, but I have to tip my hat once again to Jason and FC for this sneaky little tee and hat set that just popped up.

Last year I posted up the Halloween tee they did and now FC has decided to make it an annual tradition and has even raised the bar with a New Era no less.

I am going to predict a one day sell out on this one so get your mouse and alarm clock ready for Oct 1st when these both go on sale on the site and at other fine retailers.

Flying Coffin

Albeit, anyone that reads any decent blog should already be hip to the news that Seattle's own Flying Coffin has a new website and it shreds the face off the old one.

For anybody who has ever had to lay out, code, or do flash for a website knows how shitty that job can be.

Go peep it out on this cold morning while you pretend to work.

p.s The much anticipated Spring 08' line dropped as well and is worth a look in of itself.
