Jah Thomas

I think this is Jah Thomas' first album. It's the oldest one I have at least. As usual it is a scorcher. There are a lot of Linval Thompson made riddims which are mostly "Barrington Levy" tunes that Jah Thomas toasts over.

The title track is pretty funny. It has Jah Thomas' over "Skylarking" and he pretty much just yells at the youths for "loafin" all day. I guess the youth were really lazy at the time. I don't know.

How fierce is that album cover though? Right?

Early B

Early B a.k.a Early Bird a.k.a Doctor

Early came up along side Supercat as a mic man for Killamanjaro Sound.

This album alluded me for a while, but I pretty much knew it was a banger from the cover alone.

Unfortunately Early B was shot and killed in a dance in 1994. The list of murdered dancehall artists is a long one sadly.

* Look how serious dude's album cover is?

More rub a dub ting for the massive. If you're coming here for some rap shiz don't bother cause I'm on a dread takeover and will be for a while.

Tristan Palma comes with it on this one. Again we have all Radics on the back end, but with a man called Jah Thomas on the production tip which ain't a bad thing.

This one really conveys the whole roots to dancehall transition I've been talking about. It is worth noting because there are only so many records that do it right.

Enjoy this one because it has some heat on it.

Jah Thomas

Jah Thomas a.k.a Nkrumah was one of the few double threats in reggae. He was both a deejay and producer which is rare by any standards. Besides having big tunes as an artist he also produced a ton of songs under his label Midnight Rock. Anyone relevant at the time recorded tunes for Jah Thomas including Johnny Osbourne, Barrington Levy, Tristan Palmer, Sugar Minot, and the list goes on.

I had this album for quite a while before I cracked it open and gave it a proper listen. The vocals have a noticeable echo or delay on them that make it sound like your at the dance which is good or bad depending on what your tastes are. All the backing is by Radics and the production is solely Jah Thomas. "Dance A Fi Cork" is my favorite tune on here by far.
