Bad Tattoos 101

The most epically bad idea for a tattoo ever.

Hands down.

You are now looking at the king of all fails.

Bow before him.

Bask in it's glow of eternal regret.

Please comment away.

Show no mercy.

Quote of The Day: Tom Krause

“If you only do what you know you can do- you never do very much.”

- Tom Krause

*BTW Don't bother googling who Tom Krause is. He was like a Finnish pianist or something equally as boring.

No disrespect to all my Finnish readers.

We cool Finland. We cool.

The Current State of Jamaican Music

There has been a lot of crazy news coming out of the tiny island called Jamaica in the last few months.

The country is basically attempting to go through a moral "cleansing" by censoring, banning, and flat out doing anything possible to rid dancehall music from the masses.

Even if you don't have much interest in the music it is still interesting to think that a government and public counsels can just ban music simply because they disagree with its content.

Personally, I think they are going about it the wrong way. By placing the title "banned" or making it illegal to play in public they are essentially making the music taboo in the eyes of the youth. Anyone with some sense knows that as soon as you do that you are only going to make the youth embrace the music and the culture behind it even further.

Look at N.W.A and 2 Live Crew for example. These artists received zero radio play in the 80's and 90's (until radio friendly versions came into play obviously) and yet their first records went platinum in no time mainly due to the parental advisory labels placed on the covers. Kids saw those records as something that their parents wouldn't approve of and thought that was a good indication that they would like what was on the record.

It's not rocket science folks. If you don't want your kids to become "shottas" or "bad men" just raise your kids right and stop blaming popular music for all of the countries' woes.

Yeah Boyyeee

Imagine going to work in this bad boy everyday. If it had a sh*tter it would basically be something you could live in.

Sleng Teng Riddim

This part blew me away when I saw it in the Jammy's documentary and I just came across it on youtube.

Life wasn't worth living before youtube. I'm telling you. Where else could you find a clip of Tonto Irie and Chaka Demus playing a f*ckin didgeridoo of sleng teng live in New York in the 80's?

Makeshift No Doze Mixtape Soon Coming

Check out the teaser track from Makeshift's new mixtape "No Doze" which will be dropping in the next few days I presume.

Bump it.

Killah Priest

A little bonus album cause it's Friday.

Killah Priest's "Heavy Mental"

I remember there was this wave of mescaline going around our city when this album came out and we would trip out and play this album all the time thinking Killah Priest was some sort of modern day lyrical shaman.

Now of course I realize that we were just dumb skateboarding delinquents on hallucinogens thinking anyone involved with Wu Tang had "magical" powers.

Live and learn.

It's still a good album though.

Gravediggaz

"The sick lunatic with the devilish poem..."

I think a lot of you have a soft spot for this album. I remember being in 2nd period P.E class putting this tape (yeah m*th fucka I said tape) in my beat up walkman and zoning out before they would call my name and number for calisthenics.

This album epitomizes the glory days of my high school years. During that time I only had a few dollars in my pocket, a skateboard, walkman, and my back pack.

The opus release from the super group of RZA, Frukwan a.k.a The Gatekeeper, Poetic, and Prince Paul was originally titled "Niggamortis" but label execs obviously got spooked and changed it to "6ft Deep" with only the European copies keeping the o.g and in my opinion the superior title.

Poetic suffered from colon caner and finally passed in 2001. The group never really re-united properly and none of the subsequent releases ever captured the vibe of the first album.

Take a trip down memory lane.

Track Listing:

* 1 - Intro
* 2 - Constant Elevation
* 3 - Nowhere To Run, Nowhere To Hide
* 4 - Defective Trip
* 5 - 2 Cups Of Blood
* 6 - Blood Brothers
* 7 - 360 Questions
* 8 - 1-800-Suicide
* 9 - Pass The Shovel (only on the European release)
* 10 - Diary Of A Madman
* 11 - Mommy, What's A Gravedigga?
* 12 - Bang Your Head lyrics
* 13 - Here Comes The Gravediggaz
* 14 - Graveyard Chamber
* 15 - Death Trap
* 16 - 6 Feet Deep
* 17 - Outro

And I quote:

The cause of death is unknown to the cops
Cause when I kill them, I'm not leavin one element to autopse
First I'll assassinate em
And them I'll cremate them
And take all of his fucking ashes and evaporate em
Or creep through the graveyard and hunt down your tombstone
Dig up your skeleton and stomp all your fucking bones
You try to haunt me nigga, I ain't trying to hear it
Buck buck buck, I'll give your ass a holy spirit.

Modern Art

I saw this and had to come to grips with the fact that I say that all the time when looking at modern art.

As I get older I've realized that my definition of art changes.

At this point in my life I'm gonna say that art is whatever you can get away with.

Metric Man

I checked my inbox and saw some tracks from someone called Metric Man. I thought it was the usual "straight to trash" music that some label wants me to plug, but I check dude's tracks on myspace and was kind of surprised to hear something that I liked.

There's some flashes of Anthony B, Chuck Fender, and a smidge of Capleton in his chat and melodies which is never a bad thing. He's got some conscious stuff too if that's your bag.

Lots of goods riddims too.

Check him out and grab the album zip below.

Early B "Ghost Busters"

So after getting that first Early B album off I found out that I've been sleeping on the real gem which came out a year later called "Ghost Busters."

The album has some heat on it courtesy of production by Ossie Thomas, Tristan Palmer, and Garrick Robertson and as bonus you get Scientist on the engineering tip.

The sleeve art is by one of my favorite illustrators Wilfred Limonious. For reasons unknown there seems to be no website, book, or any sort of contact for Limonoius or his work. I know he is dead, but that's about it. If anyone knows anything about him that is noteworthy get at me.

For now just sekkle with one of the meanest covers ever.

Track Listing:

Ghost Buster
Naw Leave Me Biible
Sleep & Drive
Mek The Girls Fat
Gone A Mexico
Live Good
Two Is Better Then Too Many
Identity

I've been listening to this Federation Sound podcast all day.

It is a little too good.

It's almost all dubplates too.

I never had one of these, but god damn did I want one.

Act like you didn't lose your f*ckin mind when you saw Super Mario Bros. 3 for the first time in this movie.

Early B

Early B a.k.a Early Bird a.k.a Doctor

Early came up along side Supercat as a mic man for Killamanjaro Sound.

This album alluded me for a while, but I pretty much knew it was a banger from the cover alone.

Unfortunately Early B was shot and killed in a dance in 1994. The list of murdered dancehall artists is a long one sadly.

Track Listing:

Cane Man A Fe Bathe
Kill Me With Talking
Just Love & Unity
New York Party
Call The Doctor For Me
Four Wheel No Reel
Computer Tek Over
Poor Class Want Mass

Produced by Jah Thomas

Get it.

P.S Try and show me a better album sleeve than the one above.

The Rotten Apple

Here's a quick splash of New York from my trip last weekend.

I flew into JFK and took a cab through Queens. I saw this heaven spot right away. Most likely a tribute to o.g Sane by someone. Aerub and Katsu had fire extinguisher tags running on the columns that you can't see. Crazy spot.

I went to the MOMA on Saturday. My host Mel had free passes because she volunteers there. I really liked this photo, but I didn't remember to check for the name.

Sometimes simple letters just say it better.

None of my Moz photos turned out all that well. This one at least shows Morrissey beasting his shirt off.

Moody.

Just a little Mirot piece.

Mel also took me to her work to show me her boss' art collection that he had in their office. The secretary has to deal with this Murakami over head every day. Poor girl.

This is the only picture of my ugly mug that I have from the trip. It's across the street from where I stayed in Harlem. Unfortunately I saw no one from Dipset or the Skull Gang for that matter.

Roy is unfadeable.

Leeto's hand styles are wicked. A little Philly and a little NY all mashed into one.

Leeto throwy.

Sheina and Kevbo.

Wow.

Craze.

I gave up shoes a long time ago, but I would definitely not be mad if someone wanted to give me these Gucci yacht joints.

A.C.A.B

Stop and smell.

Fanta and Nekst.

So good.

F*ck Elvis.

The homie Dick Chicken.

Cats in a bag are always good subjects for art.

I just liked the character on this sign.

I couldn't go anywhere that Adek hadn't already been. Dude is savage.

Sheina and Josh of the Re:Up Gang

Rad.

Soba spot.

I like soup.

Toulouse Lautrec 1/2 man 1/2 amazing.

VG One.

It's hard to tell from this pic, but this Warhol was super big. It is probably 12 feet wide or so. The halftone is from the police photo of James Dean's fatal crash.

All in all NY was everything I expected and a lot of things I didn't expect. Like people being really really nice. Having lived in SD, Dallas, and now Seattle I feel like people in New York are just flat out much nicer than the average person in the previously mentioned cities. With the exception of food service. When ordering food social grace goes out the door.

The city feels massive and small at the same time. You see so much of the city through t.v, film, music, etc that you when you're there it feels like deja vu.

Thanks again to everybody in the rotten apple.
