50 Cent's Baby Mama Drama

Of all the beefs this dude has been a part of the one he seems to be losing is the legal one with his babies' momma.

There is no wrath worse the a scorned woman.

Apparently, his ex-chick's home "suspiciously" caught fire and firefighters have reported that it seems fishy.

If this turns out to be true 50 will become 2008's Rae Carruth. Dumb. Dumb Dumb.

Quote of The Day: Voltaire

"I have never made but one prayer to God, a very short one: 'O Lord, make my enemies ridiculous.' And God granted it."

- Voltaire (1694 - 1778)

P.S Voltaire is like the Lebron James of good quotes. Dude was "sonning" sons back in the day.

A Tribe Called Quest

A group and album that truly need no introduction.

I felt the need to post up an album that wasn't some esoteric post roots, pre-rub a dub, UK only version reggae record for once.

My musical tastes reach far beyond my unwavering and down right insane obsession with all things reggae.

I first copped "Midnight Marauders" in 7th or 8th grade after seeing the "Award Tour" video. I was enamored with ATCQ right from the get go. Around that same time "Beats, Rhymes, and Life" dropped shortly after. I then worked backwards and came to "The Low End Theory."

Many critics call "TLET" the pinnacle of Tribe's catalogue. Truthfully, I like all of the albums. I believe there are still talks about a new album with production by Madlib, but then again we're all still waiting on that "Doom & Ghost" album that was "supposed" to drop as well.

For those that already know skip the download, but for the new jack that is still in high school and probably hasn't been gifted this album from a cooler older brother...you're welcome.

Enjoy!

Tribe of Kings: Ranking Joe

My favorite sound and the only sound that matters: Tribe of Kings Sound will be having Ranking Joe live and direct performing sound system stylee June 15th.

You have been warned.

Seeeeeeeeen!!!!

Early Graffiti

Some people might look at these pieces and think that they lack the "wow" factor of the modern day "FX" style murals that you see today. I've found that the older I get the more I've become drawn to older pieces. While they don't jump off the wall with shiny, bright, and poppy colors of today's Belton and Montana made productions they evoke a certain authenticity that new productions just can't touch.

Most of these are just throw ups or just throw ups with some extra lines, but I would rather stare at these all day versus some done up "mega burner Jimi Hendrix guitar on fire, Nike shoe morphing into a 3-D burner with lasers shooting all over the place "wall any day of the week.

Call me old fashion.

Abbie's Beer Bong A Que

We all love photos from good parties however these photos are in no way indicative of what actually went down on Sunday's BBQ.

For whatever reason someone had purchased a beer bong. Why? I'm not sure. It's not like we were at a frat house. No one was pledging. We didn't just finish watching "Animal House." I will be damned though if that green tube of awesome took what was once a nice quaint bbq and turned it into Sloppy Second's Sunday.

Baby Alex dropped 22 beers over the course of a few short hours and if I may quote him: "I can beer bong anything, I will beer bong soy sauce, I will f*ckin beer bong chips, load it up with chips if you don't believe me."

That was just one of several precious moments.

Apparently, Mike fell off the porch. "Freeeeeeee Fallllllinnnnnnnnnn......" (a la Tom Petty y Los Heart Breakers)

Not to mention there was a vogue wave dance off and a made up song sing off.

I was only there for half of the fun.

At any rate it is going to be a long hot summer.

Salts is not in college or even grad school for that matter, but that doesn't really stop her.

Guess who's fingers those are? Here's a hint this mystery person called this tasty pork halve a "finger food."

Meltronica does a jig and I prepare to knock a beer can off my Dad's head a la "Varsity Blues."

The amount of goading and coaxing it took to get Seth off his ass and hit the beer bong was enormous.

To all my heinas choo no I love you.

Bonus photos from Meltron Dirty Dirty's Flickr:

Look at the look he's giving him.

The Falcon listens to no one but the Falcon.

Ninjaman

Speaking of big album cover art peep this feast for the eyes.

Ninjaman is not somebody you can easily describe to someone. He is a live wire. He has been known to fire shots in the air during shows and has the unique ability to clash anyone for any reason. The man is a "habitual line stepper" to the fullest.

I mean look at the dude.

You've been warned.

Junior Murvin

Above: I went and posted the HUGE size because this is easily one of the best album covers in the reggae lexicon ever.

Most people are probably familiar with Junior Murvin's massive roots tune "Police and Thieves" from the weed cultivator scene in "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels."

If that doesn't jog your memory then perhaps you've heard covered in a punk rock stylee by a little group called The Clash on their first album.

It has a melody that is impossible to forget. The song catapulted into an international hit that summer and made Junior Murvin a house hold reggae name in the UK an JA respectively.

The thing is the album from which it appears on is almost as equally as good. Producer Lee "Scratch" Perry was in his prime when the tune dropped and the whole album received his over dubbed, spaced-out, sticky style.

There is really nothing I can say about this album that hasn't been said before and probably better, but just download it and enjoy it as the sun starts to warm tings up. Seen.

Enjoy.

Bunny Kitty Press

Above: Canvas of Bunny Kitty character

Above: L: Mike Giant and R: Persue

I've mentioned the work of Persue on here a few times recently. Truth be told he is one on of my close friends not to mention one of my idols in terms of graffiti.

He asked if I would write an intro for a recent on-line article he was asked to do and I gladly accepted. The thing is I do not consider myself to be a "writer" of the written word at least, so the task was a bit daunting.

At any rate it came off good and the Q & A with him is quite funny as well.

Check it out and get familiar with one of the Most Unknown artists in the Western Hemisphere.

Chuck Fenda

I love dancehall and all it's slack ways even if it doesn't promote a positive message, but when it does have a positive message and carries a big tune I think that is when it is at it's best.

Case and point = Chuck Fenda.

The Poor People's Defenda has a way of making big tunes with good messages and although this album is a bit old it is still one of the better modern day dancehall LPs.

Lots of big tunes like "Gash Dem" which was banned from several radio stations. "Gwaan Plant" , "Freedom Speech" , and "Judgement".

Run it.

BUKET Goes Down the Well

Remember that video I posted of Buket TKO bombing the 101 Freeway in broad day a while back?

Well someone else took notice apparently.

Article taken from Juxtapoz:

NBC reports today that the prolific graffiti artist known for tagging BUKET has agreed to turn himself in for acts of vandalism across California.
Cyrus Yazdani, a.k.a Buket, told authorities last night that he would surrender himself next week after deputies visited what they believed to be Yazdani's residence yesterday. Deputies said they found plenty of evidence to use against him, including this YouTube video (c’mon, you have to admit bombing California’s 101 freeway in broad daylight is pretty dope.)
A member of LA’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority Transit Police said there are more than 20 deputies working graffiti fulltime and that Yazdani is allegedly responsible for more than $40,000 worth of damage, which could lead to prison time. Never mind the billions of dollars in damages we’ve caused fighting a war in Iraq, obviously hunting down a graffiti writer is top priority in the world of crime, right?

Buket Agrees To Surrender

Ed* What never ceases to amaze me is how much effort is used by law enforcement and city officials to capture graffiti artists. The fact is graffiti is not a violent crime. It does not deserve to be head line worthy. Don't be surprised if they try to throw the book at dude and make him another "shining" example. ACAB.

The Spurs

Was anyone else clinically depressed after seeing the Spurs beat the Hornets last night?

I'm not a big Hornets fan although, I will say I've really enjoyed watching them in the playoffs, but do we really need to have the Spurs in another Finals. I know, I know they may lose to the Lakers, but think about this:

If the Lakers lose and the Celtics lose which is obviously the worst case scenario for the media and the NBA as a whole we will have the torture of having to witness the Spurs versus the Pistons. I would rather watch grass grow personally.

The Pistons are by no means as boring as the Spurs with their "core" values and strict adherence to "fundamentals", but I bet dollars to to donuts (love that phrase btw) that ratings will plummet if that is the line up for the Finals.

Now if we get Lakers versus Celtics I am going to enjoy the media hype overload for that all the way to the end.

P.S If I was wrong then how come I can Google "Spurs Suck" and that logo pops up? Oh that's no biggie its not like someone took the time to photoshop the word "sucks" into the Spurs logo or anything.

Ghost and Rae

Above: A ghost face.

This track has been making the blog rounds the last week or so, but I think it's because even a decent Rae and Ghost track is better then 90% of most rap now a days.

Best line and I quote:

Rae: "I don't give a f*ck if you twenty five n*gga , you my son n*gga."

You'll get it when you listen to the track.

Get Familiar With: Rime

Discussing writers with other writers is always an interesting affair to say the least. Ego maniacs arguing about ego maniacs is something you really have to see to believe, however there is one name that almost everyone agrees on in terms of quality and that name is Rime MSK/KCW/7th Letter.

Whether it is bombing, piecing, throw-ups, characters, productions, hand styles, trains, art shows, anything you can possibly imagine the dude has conquered. Some writers excel in one area some times two or three, but Rime has somehow made it his goal to pretty much destroy all these categories.
