Quote of The Day: Malcolm X

"Be peaceful, be courteous, obey the law, respect everyone; but if someone puts his hand on you, send him to the cemetery."

Trinity "Shanty Town Determination"

Trinity a.k.a Junior Brammer is one of the better deejays of the later 70's roots era. Borrowing heavily from Dillinger's style and vice versa I'd imagine Trinity (named after a spaghetti western character) was in high demand after releasing his big tune "Three Piece Suit" recorded on the massive "I'm Still In Love With You" riddim origianlly by Alton Ellis the tune would solidify Trinity as a top class deejay of his day.

The album was produced by Yabby You and features a lot of his tunes as the back drop for Trinity's trademark "kung fu" style chat. The Blood & Fire label chose to re-release this album, but the version I have is the original although I'd pick up there version if you have the chance.

Weird fact: Trinity's little brother is Clint Eastwood (not the actor) who is no slouch pon' the mic himself.

Tracklisting:

1. Fire Down A Town
2. Hold Dem Jah Jah
3. Natty Dread A No Bandooloo
4. Promise Is A Comfort To A Fool
5. Quater Pound A Ishens
6. Rasta Determination
7. Samson, The Strongest Man
8. Tradition
9. Tribal War

Corey Delaney For President

This one has been viral for a while obviously, but I just like the fact that someone took the time to trace Corey and sum up the clip in one phrase:

"I'll say sorry, but I'm not taking off my glasses."

You could get the biggest creative agency in the world to develop a viral video with an ungodly budget and it would still get owned by Corey's off the head interview.

Baron Davis Snubbed

How are you gonna snub Baron Davis from The All Star Game? Really?

Part Clyde Frazier and part Ricky Henderson, Baron Davis is one of the best personalities and players in sports.

Not having him on the West Coast team is recockulus.

Punk Auction

A whole slew of personal memorabilia is up for auction from Jeff Nelson of Minor Threat/Discord Records. I am just sort of discovering EBAY if you haven't noticed. I don't buy kicks or the like on it, but when you need to find an original French pressing of the first Minor Threat record pre-1985 then there is really no other place to turn to.

Sub-Note: I bid on the Bad Brains 1980 o.g flyer so don't step to my $15 dollar bid or you will be dealt with.

Marek Ryden x Deon Sanders

EBAY auction on a Mark Ryden designed tee for Nike and the legendary "Neon" Deon Sanders.

It's still $8 last time I checked so you may wanna grab this one. Also the auction states that it's Bo Jackson in the painting, but anyone with some sense can tell you that it's Deon Sanders.

News of The Weird

Authorities in Valentine, Neb., have been on the lookout since November for the vandal who has approached several storefronts at night and, apparently with Vaseline smeared over his nude body, pressed himself against windows and doors. A radio station called the person "the buttcheek bandit" (although some speculate there may also be a copycat). Asked Valentine police chief Ben McBride, "Who in their right mind would do something like that?" [Omaha World-Herald]

Ed* I think when you press up against a window with your junk it is also called a "fruit bowl" but I could be wrong.

Heavy Manners Party @ Street Machine

Recap of the Agenda/ASR weekend:

After I got to Dustin's house after the 3 hour flight from Seattle I found out that the bastards at Alaska Airlines jacked by digital camera. Why? Hell if I know. It wasn't even a really expensive camera, but it got the job done. I finally realized how dependent I am on that little picture taking machine and it got me good and pissed off knowing that some twat janked it out of my check-in bag so he could score a dime bag for his stripper girlfriend named "Diamond."

Ever notice how strippers give themselves names that they would have wanted when they were 7?

Moving on...

Tradeshows are what you make of them I suppose, but I tend to avoid staying at one for very long if possible. I can usually only last 2 days tops and that's without showing in a booth even. That being said this time around was pretty easy going and I saw a lot of folks I hadn't seen in a few years.

I would typically have a full weekend's worth of photos to blast, but as the first paragraph will tell you, I no longer have a camera. I did however come across a Flickr site of photos from the Heavy Manners and Street Machine mixer from Friday night which was definitely a good time.

Thanks to everyone that came out

FTC, Manik, TVC, 7th Letter, Tribe of Kings, SK8 Mafia, and everyone else in attendance.

SS Decontrol

I am not gonna front and pretend like I'm a huge SSD fan. As far as I know of the band they released 2 hardcore albums and then moved on to make metal tunes and sort of fizzeled out. End of story. As hardcore albums go this one is short, loud, and to the point.

Ever notice how all vintage photos of hardcore bands the dudes in one band are wearing another band's tees? I like that.

Tracklisting:

1.) Force It Down Your Throat
2.) Get It Away
3.) Glue
4.) No Reply
5.) Nothing Done
6.) Under The Influence
7.) Xclaim

Banned in D.C

"Banned In D.C."

Banned in D.C. with a thousand more places to go.
Gonna swim across the Atlantic, cause that's the only place I can go.

You, you can't hurt me, me I'm banned in D.C. D.C.

We, we got ourselves, gonna sing it, gonna love it, gonna work it out to any length.
Don't worry, no worry, about what people say.
We got ourselves, we gonna make it anyway.

You, you can't hurt me, why I'm banned in D.C. D.C.

And if you ban us from your clubs, it's the right time, with the right mind.
And if you think we really care, you won't find in my mind.
Ooh! Ooh! You can't afford, to close your doors, so soon no more.

Culture "Two Sevens Clash"

Here's another "no-brainer" pick for the uninitiated roots listener.

The first album released by Culture was so powerful that Jamaica nearly shut down for an entire day. This was not due to the anticipation of the music, but rather from the foreboding lyrics of lead singer Joseph Hill who said in the album's title track "Two Sevens Clash" that Armageddon would begin.

The lyrics refer to the date of July, 7th 1977 as the day when the two "sevens" would clash. The album was released in 1977 and when July 7th came around in Jamaica many business, schools, and offices closed there doors. People refused to leave there homes because they truly believed that "judgement" time was upon them. All solely because of the song's assurance that Marcus Garvey had predicted that Armageddon would come on that day.

At any rate besides the interesting back story the album is one of the better roots albums of all time. As with all good roots albums you have some big players on the session list: Sly & Robby, Bingy Bunny, Tommy McCook, and Joe Gibbs handling the amazing production.

Luckily, I was able to see Culture live before Joseph Hill's untimely death and they were really good. They played almost half of this album during the show which is sort of an indication of the importance of where it sits in there catalog.

Sleng Teng

I found this mix of every o.g "Sleng Teng" version. There are 24 in total. I'm just impressed that someone took the time to compile them all into one place. I was looking at the web traffic numbers for El Super Duty Tough Work:

SDTW is visited by users in:
- 44 States in the U.S

Those aren't "2 Girls, 1 Cup" numbers but we're cool with that.

Shrooms

I can not believe this is a real movie. Really? Really America? Shroom horror movies!

Oh wow. I wouldn't have believed it if you someone told me about it.

Shrooms: Trailer

For Petey

Ed* The first PSA is the o.g of all PSA commercials. If you don't remember it then you must be on drugs. It should be in the Top 10 commercials of All Time.

Ed* The second one is just rad beyond belief. Besides the fact that kid just waltzes up at the precise moment his friend is "toking" if you will, just makes it that much better. Also I will send anyone a free Heavy Manners t shirt if they cut their hair like the kid on the left and send me a pic.

WWF

Ed* The WWF is probably the single greatest American television program of the late 80's and early 90's. It's complete rubbish now of course, but nothing lasts forever. Let's take a trip down memory lane.

Some of the forgotten greats:

Akeem The African Dream

Sizzla Busted For Ganja

Busting Sizzla for herb is like busting Britney for a speeding ticket. Really? Really Babylon? Come on now. Luckily he was only fined $100 dollars and released.

Sizzla caught up for herb

A Message to Babylon

There was a time during the summer of 06' I would watch "Rockers" every night. Since I bought the movie however many years ago I can't remember exactly I have watched it probably over 200 times.

Why?

I'm not even sure. It's like background music for contemplative thoughts I suppose.
.
Anyways, most people have never even seen or heard of "Rockers" but it's a must see if you have any interest in Jamaican culture or reggae at all.

From a cinematic stand point Rockers doesn't bring too much, but the fact that it is one of only a handful of movies to ever be filmed in Jamaica makes it worth watching.
It's story is simple and the soundtrack and music scenes are amazing.

The movie has cameos from almost anyone you can think of from the era:

-Abyssinians
-Jacob Miller
-Dirty Harry
-Gregory Isaacs
-Dillinger
-Burning Spear
-Mighty Diamonds
-Joe Gibbs
-Dr. Alimantado
-Joe Gibbs
-Big Youth
-Kiddius I
-Robbie Shakespeare
-Leroy Smart
-Jack Ruby

Chargers Going To AFC Championship

Who would have thought? My Chargers beat the defending Super Bowl Champs TWICE this year. Keep in mind that they had to do this without LT and Rivers in the the 4th quarter.

I make no proclamations that they will beat the Pats, but it is still nice to get the chance to beat those Humble Pie eating bastards and go to the big one.

Go Bolts!
