Stations Of The Elevated

Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
Part 5

My buddy Charlie put me on to this surreal documentary called "Stations of The Elevated."

IMDB says it was filmed in 1979 and includes music from jazz legend and one of my personal favorites Charles Mingus.

This movie is not another Style Wars. It comes off more like a nature special with really good jazz.

Look out for the Butch whole car in part 1.

"Butchy Butch with that tiger skiddddddd!!!"

Iron Maiden x Lenox

Above: That's my boy

This could possibly be the best day in the history of this world.

Best sh*t ever.

Kids are like drunk penguins.

In other news:

The following stores will all be stocked with Heavy Manners by next week. So get that and if your local spot doesn't have it the feel free to request it.

Bodega Store

Thanks for the support.

I saw Bonde Do Role last night. Pheed where were you man?

It was cool.

Natalie Portman's Shaved Head opened up and got all kinds of rad.

Above: N.P.S.H

It's straight electro butt rock with a little humor all mixed in. They're pretty amazing for a bunch of teenagers that can't even buy a beer at the venues they play in.

Peep there Myspace page for a listen:

Natalie Portman's Shaved Head

Oh and the season premiere of The Office is on in 2 1/2 hours. The fact that a show like The Office can be succesful in America is something to be hyped about.

Heavy Manners in Boston

Good news to all my Boston readers. Heavy Manners just got picked up by the infamous Bodega Store and should be on shelves next week.

Bodega Store is hands down one of the best shops of any kind ever. They have a secret sliding Snapple machine door for god sakes. If that wasn't enough the people that work there are top notch like Kem 5 and the store is simply amazing in every regard. Even if you aren't into clothing, sneakers, etc most people would still go to this store just to look at it.

Big ups Boston.

Check out BDGA Store:

Bodega Store (Boston, Mass)

Bodega Store on Freshness Mag

Also tonight come check out Bonde Do Role at Neumo's in Capitol Hill

I took this horrible pic at the Diplo/CSS/Bonde tour in SD. It's a cruddy pic, but it kind of somes up the ruckus that ensues when they get going.

Shout out to Diplo and Dave Switch whom I recently had the pleasure of sitting down with and discussing Jamaican vacation tips and dub plates woes.

Back by popular demand...

Diggin' In The Links:

Marc Ecko brands Bonds' ball forever

Ed* I have always been a big Marc Ecko fan, not that buy I Ecko brand clothes, but more a fan of his projects and drive. This was easily one of the most creative things done this year bar none.

U.S wants 190 billion dollars for war

Ed* So if you don't read the news Canada now has a better dollar then we do and this kind of sh*t is the reason why. Thanks Congress.

LAPD may be off the hook for killing Biggie

Nasty Style

Ed* I love simples.

I went to my first Seahawks game yesterday.

In recent years the fans have been called the "loudest" in the league. Loud was one way of putting it.

It's been ages since I've been to a NFL game and when I think back I don't remember hearing heckling this good since.....well um ever.

Seahawks' fans are psychotic. Anyone wearing orange or Bengal’s' apparel got owned the whole day.

Classic phrases like:

"Chad Johnson is a homo!"

Ed* I don't personally know Chad Johnson, but how can you possibly come back from that?

The always classic:

"Give the ball to Sean."

In this case said drunk fan behind me was referring to the Seahawks' running back Sean Alexander and really wanted him to have the ball in every offensive situation possible.

When it appeared as though the Seahawks might lose the game with 2 1/2 minutes left in the game several fans got up to leave and were immediately served with this gem:

"Where you pussies going? Are you late for a massage appointment?"

I'm not saying I'm a full fledge Seahawks fan now. I am and have been a Charger fan since diapers, but I don't mind secretly hoping for a W each time the Hawks' play anyone other then SD.

If you live in Seattle and haven’t been down to the stadium for a game I'd highly suggest doing it just for the fans and there amazing heckle gems.

What The Crazy?

Ed* Then you f*cked up.

Got a chance to go to Seattle's E.M.P Experience Music Project.

EMP Website

They don't allow cameras in, but you know how I do so I grabbed a few flicks anyway. Some of the stuff I didn't get flicks of were Jimi's guitar, Kobain's note book pages, DMC's outfit from the "Raising Hell" Tour and Busy Bee's jacket. Overall I was expecting more of a Rock N Roll Hall of Fame thing, but EMP is a lot smaller and doesn't live up to the hype as a multi million dollar ubert exhibit

The original sketch for Dondi's "Children of The Grave" Part 2 Whole Car.

Some o.g paint cans Wet Look, old Rusto, old Krylon and such.

New York City's "Make Your Mark in Society" campaign posters

"Time Will Tell"

My son has better style then I do.

His kick game isn't bad either. Just some all over shark Vans.

Reggae Album Covers

As far as I'm concerned the most interesting canvases in graphic design are tee shirts and album covers. You can ask almost anyone what their first tape, LP, or cd was and they can typically remember the exact artist and album and even though there is a sonic queue that triggers the memory a lot of it has do with image on the cover.

First tape I ever bought with my own money:

Motley Crue "Dr. Feelgood" in 1989. I was 8 years old singing about the dope man and groupies. Ironic.

With reggae/dancehall the album covers are so ridiculous that even if you weren't a fan of the genre you can enjoy the brilliant insanity that goes into them. Some are pretty sound from a design standpoint and then some are just off the wall.

At any rate here's a handful that I pulled and posted up.

The legend Dennis Alcapone getting his glamour shot on.

Big Youth probably has the best-designed covers out of any artist.

I rest my case.

Boom was dis wah dat.

* Almost all reggae artists for whatever reason have misspelled names and songs throughout their career. It still happens today quite frequently.

Clint Eastwood is badder dem all of dem.

Class is now in session.

Classic rockers style design with "Dellinger"?

General Echo sounds nothing like 2 Live Crew, but they definitely share similar philosophies.

R.I.P "Ranking Slackness" a.k.a General Echo

* Quite possibly one of my Top 5 Covers ever

The back isn't too bad either.

One of the best "Junjo" produced albums ever and this cover is too good. I suppose it makes sense from a lyrical stand point, but it is still budget.

Just saw this one for the first time and was really drawn to it.

Flash In The Pan

I know I've been posting quite a bit of Soulja Boy clips, but it can't really be helped.

Soulja Boy is sort of a positive thinking mantra for me right now.

When you wake up in the morning just say to yourself "If Soulja boy can do it then anything is possible."

That's right folks if something like Soulja Boy can be a worldwide success then you really have no exscuse in this life. Do you have debt? A shitty job? Not living up to your poetential? Want to reach for your dreams?

Just get out there and do it.

Because none of that shit stopped some country ass kid from rapping:

and I quote:

Soulja Boy Off In This Hoe
Watch Me Lean And Watch Me Rock
Super Man Dat Hoe
Then Watch Me Crank Dat Robocop
Super Fresh, Now Watch Me Jock
Jocking On Them Haterz Man
When I Do Dat Soulja Boy
I Lean To The Left And Crank Dat Dance
(Now You)
I'm Jocking On Yo xxxxx Ass
And If We Get The Fightin
Then I'm Cocking On Your Bitch
You Catch Me At Yo Local Party
Yes I Crank It Everyday
Haterz Get Mad Cuz
"I Got Me Some Bathin Apes"

It sort of puts things in perspective for you, does it not?

Just get out there and crank that f*ckin robocop and put in work.

The Man Behind The Iron Curtain

One of my favorite villains on the planet has a new blog up and running and I think it is going to be a doozy of a blog.

Justin Atallian has played a huge role aesthetically for both of my brands and has been a freelance hit man for just about every company you can think of: Street Machine, Etnies Plus, Es, Lakai, Obey, Blue Print (Europe), Carhartt (Europe), DC, Matix, and Nixon to name a few.

Now the internet will have a sneak peak behind the curtain of one the best designers you've never heard of.

Read it and bookmark it:

This is for all my music pirates out there that scout the internerd for tunes all day.

If you still aren't peeping music blogs then I'd say you are missing out on a A LOT of good stuff that's out there.

Now if you do scan music blogs for forgotten gems and the like and are sick of the blogs in your bookmark list then peep this site:

It logs all mp3s that are uploaded all over the internet and lets you search for artists or songs by scanning every mp3 site out there.

I've found some ridik tracks for almost any band, group, and genre I could think of.

Peep it yourself.

Blu is The New Black

Some guy named Blu did this.

Art fags have stepped up their collective "game" lately and are putting in work. This is mind numbingly creative. Charcoal drawings and stop shutter animation. And you're supposed to be special cause you got a couple hallow throw-ups running? Get out of here with that.

Persue x The Exchange Tour

Just got some pics from The Exchange Tour. My good friend Persue (COD) creator/owner of Bunny Kitty sent me a couple of pics from his private stash.

Persue has been a part of The Exchange since its inception. The premise is simple, but effective. Basically a hand picked group of writers take turns exchanging sketches of a different member's name and upon receivng the sketch the writer goes out and paints the piece. The idea is that having another writer freak your letters makes you go out of your comfort zone and makes the new piece more dynamic.

After doing The Exchange for a few years they decided to get everyone together to paint in 4 different cities.

LA, SF, Phoenix? (who's bright idea was that?) and Las Vegas.

Here's the pics from the trip via Persue and the internet:

This is the stuff dreams are made of.

The character that started it all. Bunny Kitty surrounded by the Booger Monster Crew.

Aroe piece with a BK character courtesy of Persue.

Persue piece.

Style chaser.

T2B (Rime, Persue, Bates, Serch,)

Scaffolding sucks.

Hot and Not

Things I am feeling at the moment:

Karate Pants
Ed* I'm wearing some right now as a matter of fact. Step up your fashion game folks.

The Secret
Ed* Before you accuse me of being some idiot that reads "new agey" type books I'd suggest you read the book first and then talk to me about it. You remember books right? There those things you used to roll L's on top of.

Trailer Park Boys
Ed* This show is no secret among the "bong hit" contingency of the television populace, but for those who continue to sleep on this show get with it. Imagine The Office in a Canadian trailer park un-edited with some of the best writing/acting that has graced the small screen.

Mastodon Official Website
Ed* Ass kicking metal that owns everything. With lyrics about mythological creatures, ancient stories, crazy beasts there isn't much more I could ask for from a band. For more like this I'd also suggest Dragonforce

Greg Oden Out for the 2007-08 Season
Ed* I wouldn't want to wish an injury upon someone, but the NBA is a competition not a patty cake match. This just validates how good the choice to pass on Oden was and why KD is going to "beast" this coming season.

Honorable Mention:

This Is England (The Movie) drops on Friday. Oi!

Things I am not feeling at the moment:

1.) Coffee shits
Ed* Don't act like you don't get em'. It's every offices dirty little secret that no one talks about.

2.) Racking food
Ed* I am getting sick and tired of racking food to eat. When are my numbers gonna hit on Lotto?

3.) Baseball
Ed* Is there a lamer sport out there? I can't pick what I loathe more the WNBA or baseball?

4.) Cold Calls
Ed* For those who are in the know. How bad do those things suck?

This is easily one of the better sports commercials in a long time.

Battalion of Saints

For those of you into punk/hardcore history this is a decent clip I found of BATS playing somewhere.

A few years ago I had a job washing dishes at this 5 star restaurant in downtown SD called Cafe Cherise. My buddy Jason owned the place and one of the chefs was this guy named George.

George used to crack jokes and fuck around a bit and I thought he seemed a bit different for an older guy that had a pretty posh job. It turns out that George the Chef was the lead singer of the Battalion of Saints. The group is widely recognized as one of the better bands from the hardcore era and all the original memebers are dead except for George.

Needless to say I was stunned. It's a small world out there.

Happy 9/11?

So we are now 6 years older since the travesty that was 9/11.

And what do we have to show for it?

1.) Two big holes where the Twin Towers stood.
Ed* Nothing like showing those terrorists that these colors don't run by not replacing the symbolic structures that were taken out by the attack
2.) A new "Vietnam" with no end in sight
3.) Bin Laden still at large
4.) Terrorist cells are at the highest recruitment levels ever

5.) 50 and Kanye's newest albums

Wow. We've come a long way. I mean what happened to the "United" America, the flags, the bumper stickers, the charity drives?

America = Land of the......oh who cares I'm gonna go download the new Ye' album.

End transmission

Katt Williams

I've been into stand-up comedy since way back when and being a part of the hip hop generation if that's what we should call it I suppose most of comedians I liked happened to be black. Not that it matters, but that's just sort of the way it was. I watched Def Comedy Jam, BET Comic View, and In Living Color constantly and that's how we did it in our house.

I think Katt Williams has a good shot at being a great stand up comedian if his first stand up special is any indication of what is to come from the 5 foot pimp.

I uploaded the mp3 file so you can listen to it wherever.

Can't Stop Soulja Boy

The VMA's were horrible yet again, but seeing Soulja Boy get his 45 seconds of fame made it all worth it.

Supa Man Dat Ho!!!!!!

p.s Sarah Silverman saying Britney's kids were so cute because they came out of her shaved sideways p*ssy. Super awkward pause from the it.

It's Wu Mutha F*cker

Be honest now besides Ghostface the Wu Tang Clan have made zero impact with any of their collective releases in the last 5 plus years. Arguably the best thing to happen to the Wu besides Ghost's output would be the El Michaels Affair and with no schedule release for the much anticipated "Cuban Linx 2" on After Math Records there isn't much to believe in for Wu fans.

Some people heralded Masta Killa's "No Said Date" as a return to the old sound, but I can truthfully say that the only Wu projects that I've purchased or made the effort to get a burn of are Ghost albums. This is coming from a guy who would buy ANYTHING that had a "W" on it.

You name it and I had it: Killa Army's follow-up, The Swarm Comp, La The Dark Man, Killah Priest, Theodore Unit, Cappadona's second album, Sunz of Man, Mathematics.

I think the only thing I passed up back then was Wu Gambinos and that's because I have a little thing called dignity.

Let's just hope that the new Wu album "8 Diagrams" leaves a lasting mark that "The W" and "Iron Flag" didn't even bother to do.

Iron Sheik Snitching

I came across this randomly and for whatever reason I think it is funny. I mean it sounds like the WWF was just full of coked out roid heads. When I was 7 years old I thought they were "athletes" then again looking back on the Ultimate Warrior I should have known he was on enough blow to kill a horse.

Oh and there is a million clips of the Iron Sheik going ape shit on camera so just search on you tube your self for those gems.

Mass Appeal vs The Art Dump Show

My buddy Charlie sent me a whole bunch of flicks from a couple spots he painted for Dewar's and pics from Mass Appeal Vs. The Art Dump show that was held a couple weeks ago.

Mr. Fab 5 Freddy in front of a hand painted Dewar's ad.

Back in olden times this sort of outfit was quite popular among gentlemen.

I have no idea how these guys paint these damn things.

More spots.

Charlie's piece for the show. All the artists were asked to paint a wooden version of Girl Skateboard's iconic "Bathroom Girl" logo.

Charlie's piece next to the super "technical" ALIFE doll.

(Artists unknown)

Pics of the crowd.

So if you or your company have a whole bunch of money laying around and need an advertisement painted on a 10 story building then get at my man Charlie and Colossal Media cause they don't play.
